Our Heroes, Inc. is a 501(c)3 public charity founded in 2013 to honor and serve members of our community who are facing, or who have overcome, great challenges in life. This includes Wounded Warriors, Veterans, children, adults and , families who have battled physical, emotional, and mental health challenges, and at-risk youth. Our Heroes primarily uses horses who have been neglected, abused, or are facing the challenges of age. We know the tremendous healing benefits of the human-horse interaction as well as the need for financial assistance in Brunswick County. Click here to be redirected to the Our Heroes, Inc. website. |
Equine assisted therapy integrates natural horse and herd behavior as a model for human cognitive and emotional health. It uses the equine assisted philosophies developed by Greg Kersten, Founder of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. These simple, yet diverse principles show us how to be a more effective communicator, business person, friend or loved one, and over all human being. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is performed with a certified equine professional and your own therapist at our facility. These exercises help clients recognize their own behaviors and patterns and create their own solutions. Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) utilizes similar principles and exercises, but with our equine specialist. EAL is not psychotherapy and does not require facilitation by a licensed mental health professional. EAL offers experiential communication, team-building and personal growth experiences to individuals, groups, families, and corporations. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) Therapeutic Riding offers riders increased balance, flexibility, muscle control and strength. Riders can also improve their focus, confidence, independence, and self-esteem. Riding can be therapeutic for any individual, but especially useful for people with psychological, social, and emotional difficulties. All sessions are conducted with our certified PATH Intl. instructor, Allie Sabo. |
